Backwards potty training :/?
For over a few weeks my almost 3yr old (boy) was doing GREAT with potty training, wore only a diaper at night and only 2 accidents. Then he got sick and his meds (or something) gave him diarrhea and he wanted to wear a diaper. Now.. everytime i put his underwear on him he pees in them. Then comes and tells me. He has not been scared or anything about it. I handle it calmly, tell him next time we need to pee in the potty (saying that because most people ask that when these questions are asked). And tells me he wants to wear his diaper. Bahh! I thought i would have him trained by 3, but it seems to be going backwards! Anyone else kids do this?
Should I keep putting his underwear on or make him happy and put the diaper back on?
It is totally normal whenever dealing with new stress, whether illness, new sib, new school, moving, etc... to go backwards with potty training. I learned lately that my older son (who is now 6) wets his pants when he is growing, he just doesn't get the sensation he needs to urinate when his body is busy expanding and doesn't get to the bathroom on time. As for the diaper, well that is tricky - for me it would be what is easier on me, diaper changing is often more cleanly and easier then cleaning up urine and feces off furniture, floors and out of clothes. You can also make him an active participant in cleaning up - make him do what he can and help him finish the clean up.
