How Do Emergency Rooms Get Paid For Uninsured Patients?
How do hospitals handle patients who come into a hospital trauma center or ER and are uninsured? Do they have to pay cash for services rendered immediately or sent a bill and how much are the ER charges in Los Angeles. What about the Parametics. How and what are they paid if there is no insurance? Or are there any charges for calling parametics and if the government kicks in the fees.
Anyone who knows how the system works, many of us would like to find out how the whole ER/Parametics system works. Thanks
For our hospital, we have a few different programs.
We have an HCAP program which is through the government. It's a financial assistance program for patients who are below poverty level. Then there's a charity care program for patients 250% above poverty level. The charity care is a tax write off. We pretty much just foot the bill.
If your income is still too high for these programs, we have an interest free payment plan, and then there is a hardship program.
